T'ai Chi Chih® is about attaining balance; the power of feeling “serenity in the midst of activity.” It’s a set of movements completely focused on the development of an intrinsic energy called Chi. It's easy to learn and usually takes about three months (or 8-10 classes). T'ai Chi Chih (TCC) consists of 19 stand-alone movements and one pose. T'ai Chi Chih does not require a particular level of physical fitness or coordination. The very old and the very young alike can learn it. (For those with physical limitations, movements may be done seated – with some modification.) No special clothing or equipment is required. It’s important to note that T'ai Chi Chih is not a martial art. T'ai Chi Chih is completely non-violent. Further evidence of the health benefits of T'ai Chi Chih can be found at the following link: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28661865/
T’ai Chi Chih Beginners Courses are generally taught in 12-16 hours and usually consist of eight or more lessons, typically once a week. Participants will be presented with a brief history and origin of T’ai Chi Chih, and how to perform the nineteen movements and closing pose. In addition, the key principles of the practice are presented, their relationship to the movements, and also the benefits of incorporating a regular practice. Each lesson will include a full practice and a short seated meditation.
This is a standing practice. However, if chairs can be made available, certain aspects of the training can involve being seated.
We are excited to jumpstart this ongoing class with the following plan.
I. Introduction to the Practice and Objectives of the Beginners Course...open to anyone
II. Beginners Course: $10/Session The T'ai Chi Chih Beginners Course will be 12-16 hours, over eight or more lessons (averaging 1.5 hours/week),
Taught and Led by T'ai Chi Chih® teacher, Marilyn Griffin
